Here are 5 important questions you may consider asking your wedding photographer BEFORE you book their services.
Are you recently engaged, ready to start planning your wedding, and wondering "where the heck do I even start?"
Planning for a wedding can be difficult--believe me, I've been there before. There are a lot of things to consider like wedding colors, how to do your hair, bridesmaid's dresses, florals, a DJ, the cake and sooo many other things.
One of the biggest investments you might make for your wedding is your wedding photographer.
There are thousands of photographers out there and you might be thinking, "how do I choose the right photographer to fit my vision and needs?"
Well look no further, I have thought-up 5 important questions you may want to consider asking your wedding photographer before you book with them.
#1 - "Do you have a secure plan for backing up our photos after our wedding day is over?"
This is arguably one of the most important questions you should ask your wedding photographer.
Technical issues are bound to happen, but a professional wedding photographer should know to take necessary actions to help prevent the loss of your wedding photos.
Some examples of a secure backup plan may include the following:
-Shooting on two camera bodies in case one camera fails
-Shooting with dual SD card slots on each camera body
-Backing up your wedding photos in at LEAST two locations
Your wedding photographer doesn't necessarily need all three of those backup plans listed above, especially the first one. At the very least, I would recommend hiring someone who shoots with dual SD cards and will backup your photos in at least two different places (the last two bullet points).
#2 - "Will there be an additional charge if my event goes longer than expected?"
It is nearly impossible to plan your wedding day where it run perfectly on-time. Unexpected events may happen making your wedding timeline fall behind.
I always recommend asking your potential wedding photographer if there will be additional fees if your wedding goes longer than expected and how much they charge per additional 1/2 hour to hour.
This way, you won't have to worry about any additional fees you weren't aware of if your wedding goes longer than the time that was contracted.
#3 - "How will we receive our final wedding gallery and what is your turnaround time?"
This one is important! You want to make sure you understand how and when you will receive your final wedding gallery.
#4 - "Are your wedding packages customizable?"
Every single wedding and couple are different with unique tastes, visions, and needs. You can consider asking your wedding photographer if they offer customizable wedding packages.
If they don't offer customizable wedding packages, make sure you choose a wedding package that includes what you need and what you are looking for.
If there are additional services or items you would like, but are not included in your wedding package, consider asking if that photographer offers that service or item and what the additional cost may be.
#5 - "Do your wedding day package prices include taxes or will the taxes be added on in the invoice?"
If the wedding photographer you are interested in does NOT include the price to cover their taxes, be aware that there may be an additional 30%-35% charge to cover the cost of taxes.
It is important to know and understand the wedding photographer's pricing to make sure you aren't shocked by any charges once you receive the quote/invoice.
My final bonus tip to conclude the questions to ask your wedding photographer:
#6 Invest in a professional wedding photographer, I promise it will make a difference.
The one thing that lasts FOREVER after your wedding day, is your wedding photos.
Hiring your Uncle who specializes in landscape photography for cheaper might seem like a wise decision at the time, but understand that you might be sacrificing your dream wedding day experience.
The photographer you invest in for your wedding day can make or break your experience.
Hire someone that has shot many weddings before, knows what they are doing, and has you and your fiancés best interest in mind.
You are not only investing in the photos you will receive, but you truly are investing in the photographer's experience they will provide for you.
The wedding photographer you choose will be the one person that is with you ALL day--and I mean ALL day. From getting ready, to walking down the aisle, to bridal portraits, to the send-off.
Please invest in a professional wedding photographer.
Your wedding day should be the best day of your entire life. Keeping these questions in mind when choosing a wedding photographer can help you make the right choice.
I know everyone says it, but your wedding day truly goes by so fast.
Your wedding photos and videos will be the things you have to look back on. The photos should have the power to bring back all those feelings and spark all those beautiful memories you had on the best day of your life.
